Man killed by lightning strike in Biergarten near Stuttgart
A young man has died from his injuries after being struck by lightning at a beer garden near the southwestern city of Stuttgart on Sunday, August 13.
Man in Germany dies after being struck by lightning
Police have announced that a 35-year-old man has died in hospital after he was struck by lightning while sitting in a Biergarten in Unterensignen near Stuttgart on Sunday evening.
The man was sitting under a tree when the lightning struck, causing a fatal shock and injuring others around him. An 11-year-old boy and a 43-year-old woman are still in hospital following the incident, with the woman said to be in critical condition.
A four-year-old boy and 11-month-old girl, who were sitting in a bicycle trailer for children when the lightning struck, were also treated for shock at the scene on Sunday.
Unterensignen thunderstorm hit several houses
Police reported that most customers were lucky to have gone inside the Biergarten building before the lightning struck the garden. Unfortunately, the group that was struck had still been sitting at a beer bench, which commonly has a metal frame, at the moment the bolt hit.
In the surrounding parts of Baden-Württemberg, lightning also struck a number of houses.
