Germany to pin Eurovision hopes on rock band Lord of the Lost

The rock band Lord of the Lost has been chosen to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest this May with their song Blood and Glitter. The group, who hail from Hamburg and are known for their glitzy costumes and sensational performances, are certain to put on a good show.

Lord of the Lost to represent Germany at Eurovision Song Contest 2023

On Friday, it was announced that Lord of the Lost had won out against seven other Eurovision contenders at a preliminary round in Cologne. That means they will represent Germany at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest on May 13.

The decision last Friday was split between an international jury from eight countries and the audience. While Lord of the Lost weren’t the jury’s choice - receiving just 43 points and placing fifth - they proved the fan favourite and were propelled into first place by a generous score of 146 points from the audience.

The song comes from the band’s new album, also titled Blood and Glitter, which was released earlier this year and entered the German charts at number one. The group also toured with Iron Maiden last year, boosting their status on the global stage. If you haven’t already heard the song yet, check out the video below. It’s catchy, glittery, and very Eurovision-friendly.

ESC 2023 final to take place in Liverpool

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 is taking place in Liverpool. Traditionally, it is the winner who hosts the next competition, but last year’s ESC was by won the Kalush Orchestra from Ukraine and, due to the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine, the European Broadcasting Union decided that the UK, who came second with Sam Ryder’s Space Man, would instead host the final.
