Munich ranked as seventh-best airport in the world
The Skytrax aviation ranking for 2022 has once again ranked Munich as one of the best airports in the world. The German airport fell one place in the rankings to seventh position, from sixth in 2021.
After two pandemic years, Munich airport is thriving
Even after two years of the coronavirus pandemic in Germany, Munich's airport is still thriving. The airport, which is the second largest in Germany, took second place out of all European airports, behind Paris CDG, and gained seventh place overall.
Passengers also chose Hilton Munich Airport as the best airport hotel in Europe for the first time. Despite its good score overall, Munich’s airport has slipped down the rankings slightly compared to previous years, having been in fifth place in 2020 and sixth place in 2021.
Globally, Qatar’s Doha Hamad airport takes the crown
In the 2022 ranking, Qatar’s Doha Hamad airport maintained its streak in the top spot, followed by the popular Tokyo Haneda and Singapore Changi airports. The Skytrax ranking is based on many different criteria, including comfort, cleanliness and customer service, and was carried out as a passenger survey over a period of around eight months, at a total of around 550 airports internationally.
Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted praised Munich Airport’s performance throughout the pandemic period, saying, “We congratulate Munich Airport on this important award. Because of the global travel restrictions resulting from the pandemic, the last two years have been very difficult for all airports. Munich Airport has successfully overcome the challenges now arising from the return to rapidly growing demand.”
