Deutsche Bahn exceeds employment target for 2021 and 2022

German rail company Deutsche Bahn has revealed that it has exceeded its employment targets for 2021 and 2022, in this last year alone.

Deutsche Bahn hired thousands of people in 2021

Deutsche Bahn has revealed that it hired 22.000 people this year, including maintenance workers, train drivers, dispatchers and some 2.410 engineers. The increased number of employees reflects Deutsche Bahn’s mission to expand its rail network and make train travel a viable alternative to flying, as well as ensuring passengers can travel safely, and in accordance with regulations, during the coronavirus pandemic.

The state-owned company has committed to improving its public transportation services, through investing in infrastructure, vehicles (including a fully autonomous train), stations and personnel.

One of Germany's major employers

"The mobility transition needs committed employees," said Martin Seiler, Deutsche Bahn’s head of Human Resources. Deutsche Bahn had previously agreed to hire 18.000 new workers over the course of 2021 and 2022, a number that was surpassed in this year alone.

Despite also losing thousands of employees every year, mainly to retirement, Deutsche Bahn currently employs 219.000 people in Germany. Deutsche Bahn is also a big international company, with 337.000 employees worldwide.
