Germany ranks 15th in Quality of Life Index for expats

Germany has achieved 15th place in the latest Quality of Life Index compiled by Blacktower Financial Group, outperforming the likes of the UK, France and Spain.

Expat Quality of Life Index 2020

The Quality of Life Index is a ranking by the Blacktower Financial Group, which ranks the best countries for expats based on six key metrics. The ranking helps to provide financial advice as well as assessing the quality of life for expats that have settled across the world.

The study found that there are four main reasons for which people move abroad: family, lifestyle improvement, the promise of increased income and finally, adventure and new activities. In light of this, the study took data from 195 countries to determine each country's score, looking at average monthly salary, cost of living, property price to income ratio, quality of healthcare and global peace level.

According to the study, Switzerland is the best country for expats to move to in 2020. The country had the highest quality of life out of all the places surveyed due to strong scores in the average monthly salary and property price to income ratio categories.

Germany’s performance

Germany ranked 15th in the Quality of Life Index for expats, securing above-average scores across the six main categories. The federal republic achieved a particularly good score in the Quality of Healthcare category. Blacktower also noted that Germany has a pretty low cost of living compared to other European countries.

Germany scored poorly in the World Happiness Ranking category, as well as having a comparatively low average monthly salary.
