Freimarkt Bremen
This is one funfair you need to visit at least once during your time in Germany! Taking place during the last two weeks of October, the Freimarkt in Bremen sees the city by the river turned upside-down with amusement rides, stands and entertainment!
Funfair in Bremen
One of the oldest events of its kind in the country, the Bremen funfair has been taking place for close to a thousand years. Way back in 1035, the first open-air market allowed small and local vendors to sell their wares to consumers on the church grounds of "Our Lady". Ever since then, the Freimarkt has continued to take place twice a year, celebrating one of the oldest funfair traditions in Germany.
Nowadays the funfair draws in over four million visitors, who come from far and wide to explore the rides, German food and entertainment for 17 days. With more than 300 entertainers and 50 amusement rides, the funfair offers thrilling experiences and laughs for young and old - perfect a day out with friends and family.
Fun, laughs and good vibes at the Freimarkt
The Freimarkt funfair at the Bremen Bürgerweide spans more than 100.000 square metres of roller coasters, carousels, bumper cars and high swings. Those looking for a more laid-back atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of the rides, can head over to the "Little Freimarkt" and explore stands offering regional specialities, hand-made crafts and special drinks - not to mention a local beer or two.
And between the town hall and the Liebfrauenkirche, visitors can enjoy a special medieval-themed market, complete with blacksmiths, glass blowers and stonemasons! Singers, fire dancers and jugglers are also on hand to provide plenty of street entertainment.
Attending the Freimarkt
As there is no direct parking by the Bremen Freimarkt, visitors are encouraged to use the park-and-ride options when driving, or other modes of transportation.
