Open-air cinema by Munich's Olympic lake

A perfect summer experience is waiting for you at Munich's idyllic Olympic lake: an open-air cinema. Get ready to enjoy some the most recent blockbusters, art-house films and captivating 3D cinema hits at this beautiful outdoor movie theatre.

The special outdoor screen has been developed to show each and every film's details in the highest rendering, come rain or shine, so you never have to worry about missing the details. What's more, covered seating areas mean that film screenings, usually starting around 9 pm, always take place, regardless of the weather conditions (the show must go on!).

This year, while shows are allowed to take place despite coronavirus restrictions, certain measures have had to be taken to ensure the safety of all visitors and staff. A 1,5-metre distance between individuals has to be maintained at all times, which means that the Kino am Olympiasee will see more than two thirds of its seats empty. Kitchens will stick to cold food, masks are required on site and blanket and umbrella rentals are unavailable for hygiene reasons.

Enjoy the latest hits under the stars

In order to further enhance the complete outdoor feeling of the open-air cinema, the seating area is divided into three separate areas. There is the love-seat area, which features double lounge chairs for couples to cuddle in, in addition to regular deck chairs to recline in.

Usually there are seating spots on the side for those who wish to picnic while watching the film. Unfortunately, this year, for security reasons, these are unavailable. It is also not currently possible to book individual seats.

The open-air cinema opens its doors for pre-screening (and snacking on some local treats) before the main movie starts at 9.15 pm. Usually, there is free choice of seating, but this year your tickets will be numbered.

Cinema programme

The programme of the Munich Open-Air Cinema consists of a wide range of international and German blockbusters and new releases in a variety of languages. These include films such as Parasite, Das Perfekte Geheimnis, Als Hitler Das Rosa Kaninchen Stahl and Bohemian Rhapsody.

What's more, a select number of films will be shown in their original language, so you can enjoy hits such as Down By Law, Joker and 1917 in English!
