Young Euro Classic Festival
Every summer, youth symphony orchestras from across the globe come together to play in the Konzerthaus on the famous Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin.
The Young Euro Classic festival, which runs for two and a half weeks each year, is widely recognised as the most important platform for young international orchestra talent within the European classical music tradition.
Young Euro Classic - supporting the musicians of tomorrow
Representing the budding youth culture in the classical music tradition, the festival aims to support the musicians of tomorrow by enabling them to perform in front of a knowledgeable Berlin audience.
With orchestras performing from as far as the Dominican Republic, China and the USA, the event has grown over the years into a highlight of the city’s cultural calendar for young people. For example, over 25.000 of the visitors who attend the event annually are significantly younger than the average concert attendee.
Programme highlights for Young Euro Classic 2024
Celebrating its 25th edition this year, youth orchestras from the UK, Brazil, Czechia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Turkey and the Netherlands will be in the spotlight. As part of their 25th anniversary celebration, there is a festival-within-a-festival: "re-play - Freedom of Sound". This part of the programme will explore classical music from outside the European tradition.
Long-time favourites making their return to the festival include the National Youth Orchestra of Germany, the National Youth Ballet of Germany and the European Union Youth Orchestra. August 18 is Children's Day, with events aimed at very young children, giving them the chance to make music and become inspired early!
