Mayday: Germany's prime dance festival
May 1 is strongly associated with dance events in general. In many German cities, the last night of April is a night for partying. People all over the country go out dancing on April 30 until the small hours of May 1, and this particular dance event in Dortmund trumps them all in terms of prestige and renown.
May 1 is a holiday in Germany - there’s no work or school - so why not take part in the tradition at the most famous dance event for miles around?
Mayday doesn't only take place on April 30 to May 1 in Germany. It also happens in Katowice, Poland, during the winter. In the past, it has also been held in other locations in Germany, Poland, Hungary and Russia.
