At a new immersive exhibition opening in Cologne on February 7, history buffs and fans of James Cameron’s 1997 masterpiece can enter the world of Titanic.
Ever wanted to see the Heart of the Ocean sparkle with your own eyes? Smell the fresh paint? Stand at the grand staircase as the clock strikes nine and ask your friend if they “Wanna go to a real party?”, or look out onto the Atlantic, like a millpond, from Captain Smith’s bridge room?
Such a whirlwind no longer requires time travel, just the ICE to Cologne Hauptbahnhof. After premiering in Atlanta and Milan a new immersive Titanic exhibition has completed its maiden voyage to Germany and is making headlines.
For 26 euros per person, visitors of all ages can enjoy an “unforgettable experience combining digital immersion and tangible history which breaks the barriers of a traditional museum visit,” the city of Cologne explained on its website.
300 original artefacts from Titanic and her sister ships, the Olympic and Britannic, will be on display, alongside “breathtaking audiovisual effects” and a virtual reality experience of the 12 minutes leading up to when the Titanic hit the ocean floor at 2.40am on April 12, 1912.
Titanic nerds living beyond Cologne need not fret. From April 17 to September 14 the exhibition will run in Hamburg.
No need to win your tickets on a lucky hand at poker, there are still plenty available for the Cologne exhibition at Oskar-Jäger-Str. 99 or Hamburg exhibition at Neß 9 (Rathausviertel). But they are likely to be snapped up quickly!
