Level 3 weather warning issued as storms forecast for Germany
The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a severe weather warning for storms and heavy rainfall in southwestern and northeastern parts of the country between May 31 and June 3.
Torrential rain expected in southern and eastern Germany
The DWD has issued a level-three weather warning for stormy weather and torrential rain in southern Bavaria, stretching west into Baden-Württemberg before moving north. Temperatures in the southwest will remain below 20 degrees celsius over the weekend.
Heavy rain will continue through the weekend, and in the Munich area is expected to persist into Monday daytime. The weather service reported a risk of flooding in areas where rainfall has already been heavy in recent days.
With the heavy rain forecast to move from the Alps to the north and east, Poland, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Thuringia and Saxony will all be affected. "In this area, we expect rainfall of 100 litres per square metre within 48 hours," said DWD meteorologist Nico Bauer.
Stormy weather forecast for Berlin
While Berlin remains in the green when it comes to weather warnings, the capital is set to see its fair share of temperamental weather this weekend.
Weather will remain cooler with breaks of sun throughout the weekend days, but Blitz und Donner (lightning and thunder) will fill Berlin skies on Saturday and Sunday night. Whatever your plans are, it might be best to leave the sandals at home and remember to pack an umbrella.
