DWD issues ice warning across Germany with further snow forecast
As the first winter snow reaches the federal republic, the German Weather Service (DWD) has released an ice warning for much of the country.
Snow and ice cause disruption continue in Germany
The DWD has released an ice warning for slippy streets and autobahns across the country. Heavy snowfall and ice led to many road accidents on the evening of November 28, including a crash in Bavaria in which eight people were injured.
In another accident in the southern state, icy roads caused 10 cars to collide on a bridge near Gunzenhausen. Similar scenes were also reported in German federal states in the north, with four cars and an ambulance crashing in Leipzig on Tuesday night, and additional accidents in Lower Saxony, Bremen and Schleswig-Holstein.
More snow expected across Germany this weekend
Flurries have made their entrance across much of the country and the DWD expects the white weather to continue into the weekend.
“It remains wintry across the board and there is relatively widespread snow,” a DWD meteorologist said on Wednesday morning. Occasional regional snowfall is expected on Wednesday, “but the majority will come at the weekend”, after which is expected to get even colder! Stay cosy!
