Blood Red Sky: Netflix's latest German film is an international hit
With German-language titles like Dark and Barbarians already proving popular among viewers, Netflix has been expanding upon its foreign-language output. Its latest release, Blood Red Sky, a plane-hijacking thriller cum vampire horror flick, has become the surprising hit of the summer.
Netflix’s new German film is an international hit
Blood Red Sky is set to become Netflix’s most successful German-language content ever, having so far been watched by more than 50 million households worldwide - despite having only been released on July 23. That surpasses the record set by the historical series Barbarians.
Netflix counts a film as being “seen” if more than two minutes are played, but Netflix says that an average of 90 percent of viewers watched the film’s entire two-hour run-time - an impressive statistic in itself. The film has already reached the top 10 in 93 countries worldwide, and the number one spot in 57 countries, including the US, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and the Philippines.
Blood Red Sky synopsis
With scenes in both German and English, Blood Red Sky is your classic plane-hijacking film with a vampire thrown in - like Snakes on a Plane meets Twilight. Nadja (Peri Baumeister) and her 10-year-old son are on an overnight flight from a German airport to New York when a group of terrorists take control of the plane and threaten the passengers. Nadja faces a choice - should she reveal her dark side to save her son?
