3 German streets named among the most beautiful in the world

American magazine Architectural Digest (AD) has named three German streets in Berlin, Bonn and Bavaria as the most beautiful in the world.

Most beautiful streets in the world by Architectural Digest

In the ranking, Architectural Digest (AD) wrote that stunning streets and alleyways can be found across the world and serve to remind us that “good, beautiful things are all around us - so long as we take the time to find them”. To help fill the bucket lists of travellers worldwide, the magazine collated 71 of the world’s most beautiful streets.

To earn a place on the list, a street had to showcase vibrancy and colour, be historically significant, have stunning natural features, possess captivating architecture or have interesting restaurants or shops. This means that the list is very diverse, from the Amalfi Coast in Italy to the Champs-Élysées in Paris and Brouwersgracht in Amsterdam.

Bonn, Bavaria and Berlin streets named among the most beautiful

While Kreuzberg and Neukölln regularly top the “cool lists” when it comes to the most hip neighbourhoods and streets in Germany, the grand boulevards of Berlin-Mitte and tree-lined avenues of Bonn took the fancy of Architectural Digest editors.

Bonn’s Heerstrasse, also known as Cherry Blosson Avenue, took place 28 in the list of 71 most beautiful streets. During the cherry blossom season, which usually lasts for just a few weeks from late March until late April, the avenue “brings in tourists and photographers alike”, said AD. At peak bloom, you can hardly even see the sky!

Stretching the definition of a street in 44th place was “the Bavarian Alps”. The magazine pointed readers towards the between 15.000 and 30.000 lakes within the borders of the mountain range, and in particular, the Sylvenstein Lake in Lenggries. A death notice for any beloved nature spot, AD called the bridge that gently curves around the lake, “Instagram worthy”.

Finally, declared “one of Europe’s most beautiful boulevards” no less, Unter den Linden in Berlin-Mitte was named the 60th most beautiful street in the world. Reminiscent of the Champs-Élysées or Vienna’s Ringstrasse, the “bridle path in the 16th century” stretches from Alexanderplatz to the Brandenburg Gate.
