Winter Light Festival - Stuttgart
As winter descends upon us, the streets in the city of Stuttgart come alive with soft, glowing lights as the annual winter light festival kicks off. Known as Glanzlichter Stuttgart, the festival sets the city aglow during the dark weeks of winter.
Stuttgart’s spectacular winter light show
A highlight of the holiday season in Stuttgart, the light festival includes an hourly light show on the Palace Square, complete with light sculptures and festively elaborate illuminations on Königstrasse in the city centre.
The main centrepiece of the Christmas illuminations on Palace Square consists of eight fascinating light structures, covered in thousands of LED lamps. Representing the city’s main tourist attractions, the sculptures embody the Mercedes-Benz Museum, the Porsche Museum, the Television Tower, the Royal Burial Chapel, the Wilhelma, the Stuttgart Beer Festival and two musicals - Anastasia and Aladdin.

A glittering and sparkling Christmas celebration
But that’s not all. Once the sun sets, the light structures come vividly to life as works of light art during a special show. Taking place every hour, the show is accompanied by matching music, making the light festival an unforgettable experience. What’s more, the light festival is powered by 100 percent green electricity, making it more sustainable.
After watching the light show, why not walk down Königstrasse and admire the light illuminations before heading to one of Stuttgart’s Christmas markets to really get in the holiday spirit? Don’t forget to sample some of the regional specialities while you are at it, or warm up with a mug of mulled wine!

Watching the Glanzlichter Stuttgart
The beautiful light sculptures are set to brighten up the Palace Square from November 24 to December 28, while the light installations in the city centre will create an enchanting atmosphere to January 6, 2020.
