Foodsharing Festival Berlin
Come and unite with like-minded people to fight unnecessary food waste this summer at the Foodsharing Festival! Taking place for the third time at the famous Malzfabrik in Berlin, the Foodsharing Festival is part of the broader, sustainable initiative that aims to end food waste.
Bringing together more than 700 people each year, this festival highlights the aim of foodsharing as a tool to fight against food waste, like many new apps, and bring about sustainable change.
Fighting food waste through food sharing
With an estimated one-third of all food production around the world ending up in landfills, the foodsharing community based in Berlin has banded together to tackle food waste by ”saving” unwanted and overproduced food from small and large businesses as well as private households.
Committed to creating a sustainable environment and consumer goals, the community organises a foodsharing festival at the Malzfabrik in the city’s Tempelhof-Schöneberg district every summer. Central to the festival is the cooking sessions, which see a group of volunteers band together to cook delicious, filling and hearty meals for all attendees.
The food used is donated by partner organisations and volunteers, who bring and share food among each other. As this festival is free of charge to attend, attendees and volunteers can donate to help the organisation and execution of the event.
Programme for foodsharing festival 2019
A safe place for foodsharing, culture and creativity, the festival features numerous lectures, workshops, rescued food and cooking sessions as well as music, yoga and more throughout the weekend.
During the workshops, panel discussions or cooking sessions, participants will be able to ask all the questions they may have related to foodsharing and food waste while gaining a wealth of information.
Festival-goers also have the option of camping overnight by Malzfabrik for 10 euros. As the event is sustainable, overnight guests are asked not to bring any camper vans or buses, use public transport when possible and to leave the grounds as green and clean as they found them.
