The Dresden Christmas Market
If you like Christmas markets, then you will love the Dresden Striezelmarkt! Taking place this year for the 588th time, this traditional market is the oldest Christmas market in Germany.
Experience the Christmas tradition in Dresden anew
Enjoy the warm blaze of lights, the scent of mulled wine and sausages grilling over an open fire and the jingle of festive tunes throughout this traditional Christmas market. Stroll amongst the beautifully decorated wooden stands, where vendors offer handmade Christmas baubles, winter accessories and unique gifts.
The Striezelmarkt will feature a number of experiences aimed at family fun, including making traditional dishes at the Christmas bakery, riding the train at the children’s railway or visiting the fairytale forest. What’s more, following the opening of the Christmas market, Santa Claus will open a new window of the special Advent calendar daily in the run-up to the national holiday.
Festive cheer everywhere at Germany’s oldest Christmas market
Adults can also enjoy a varied entertainment programme during the Striezelmarkt. On certain days, trombone choirs perform and the market also hosts the the annual Dresden Stollenfest too - the highlight of the Stollen season. Don’t miss out on the gospel evening, or the Christmas recital, where all Striezelmarkt guests are encouraged to sing along.
The Striezelmarkt is not the only one in Dresden - there are nine other differently themed markets in the city, including one beneath the Frauenkirche and the medieval market in the Stallhof, so why not visit more than one? Be sure to dress warmly to brace the German weather while you explore these lovely festive markets!
