It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, so why not enjoy the best seasonal offers at the world-renowned Christmas market in Nuremberg! Be enticed by the aroma of hot mulled wine, rum punch and Bratwurst at this special Christkindlesmarkt in the lead-up to the national holiday

See Christkind spread joy at the Christmas market in Nuremberg

Taking place since the 16th century, the beautiful and traditional “little town of wood and cloth” in the centre of Nuremberg’s Old Town opens its doors to the public the Friday before the first Sunday in Advent.

Best known as the Christkind, the traditional Christmas gift-bringer of the region, the Christkind brings joy to people in Germany. Every year a new Christkind is selected to greet visitors on Nuremberg’s main market square, spreading holiday cheer amongst old and young and putting a twinkle in everyone’s eye.

One the market is open, over 180 stands, all decked out for Christmas with baubles and lights, will offer conventional holiday gifts, like the gold foil angel Zwetschgenmännle, wooden nutcrackers and sweet treats like gingerbread and Spekulatius cookies. Don’t miss trying some regional specialities: the original Nuremberg gingerbread and Nuremberg Bratwurst are a must.

Mulled wine, Bratwurst and holiday cheer

Over at the Hans-Sachs-Platz there is a Christmas market which focuses on children and family, where the little ones can try their hand at baking holiday cookies and glass painting, or take a ride on the historic carousel and Ferris wheel.

For the adults, there are plenty of tours, Christmas concerts and exhibitions to explore at the Christmas market in Nuremberg and the surrounding churches and museums. And don’t miss out on the Sister Cities’ Market, which brings an international touch to the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt each year. The proceeds of the handmade Christmas decorations sold here go to many charitable organisations in the 13 city partners.
