Local transport associations in Berlin and Hamburg have announced that they will launch a new transport app, providing passengers with up-to-date traffic information.

BVG and HHV to launch new transport apps in Berlin and Hamburg

Passengers using public transport in Berlin and Hamburg will soon be able to access more up-to-date information about U-Bahn, tram and bus delays, diversions and disruptions.

“The app will show real-time information for buses, trams and U-Bahns, which we are familiar with from multiple apps for taxis,” explained Henrik Falk of Berlin’s local transport association the BVG, “This way we can see where my bus is, and when it should arrive at the bus stop."

The BVG is working together with Hamburg’s local transport association, HHV, to develop the app for local transport in the two northern German cities. The app should be available to passengers starting in spring 2026.

New Berlin transport app will make Jelbi-App obsolete

Currently, the BVG app allows passengers to book tickets for U-Bahns, trams and buses, but they must use the separate Jelbi-App to book alternative transport services offered by the BVG, such as hiring e-scooters and cars.

Falk explained that the Jelbi-App will become obsolete once the new BVG app is launched in 2026, as e-scooter and car leasing services will be integrated into the new app.

If the app format proves popular in Berlin and Hamburg, it will likely be rolled out in other German cities. “I see great development potential in the whole thing,” said Falk.
