Women sexually assaulted at Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria

Police in Bavaria have announced that a woman has died after being pushed into a gorge at Germany’s world-famous Schloss Neuschwanstein. On a visit to the castle, the 21-year-old and her 22-year-old friend were sexually assaulted by a man before both women were pushed from a viewing point.

The perpetrator, a 30-year-old American tourist, is said to have led the women from the Marienbrücke bridge to a lookout point, before sexually assaulting the 21-year-old. Police say that when the 22-year-old intervened to help her friend, the man strangled her and pushed her, causing her to fall 50 metres down into the Pöllat Gorge. He then did the same to the 21-year-old woman.
