63 Berlin bridges in “poor condition”
An information request from the Berlin Greens has revealed that more than 60 of the city’s bridges are in an unsatisfactory condition.
63 Berlin bridges graded 3,0 or less
A request made by representatives of the Green Party to Berlin’s Senate for Transportation has revealed that 63 bridges in the capital are in poor condition, meaning they are graded a 3,0 or lower by the responsible department.
All bridges in Germany have a condition rating of between 1 (very good condition) and 4 (insufficient condition).
The request was made following the collapse of the Carola Bridge in Dresden in September 2024. Serving public transport and cars between the old and new towns of central Dresden, the bridge collapsed at 3am, with no injuries reported.
Which Berlin bridges are in poor condition?
According to the Senate, 71 bridges across all of the 12 districts in Berlin require refurbishment, but renovations are only planned for under half of the bridges in question.
These include Admiralbrücke (2026), Modersohnbrücke (2026), Bellevueparkbrücke (2026), Adlerbrücke in Berlin-Tiergarten (2027), Dahlemer Weg Brücke (no plan), Brücke an der Wuhlheide (2026) and Teltowkanalbrücke (no plan).
